Quiet The Worry And Give Your
Mind A Break

Your mind doesn't switch off

You lie down at the end of the day and it starts up: the conversation you should have handled differently, the email you sent, the thing you have to do tomorrow. You wake up and the race has already started. Somewhere along the way you started to feel like everyone else manages fine and you're the only one working this hard to get through an ordinary week.

Sometimes the anxiety attaches to one thing. Like maybe you've been unhappy in the same relationship for a long time and every time you think about ending it, being on your own frightens you more than staying does. You go back and forth for months. You can't work out whether the problem is the relationship or you or something you can't put a name to. The not knowing is exhausting on its own.

You've Been This Wound Up So Long It Feels Normal

Some of this may sound familiar:

You second-guess small decisions and then second-guess the second-guessing.
Your chest is tight and your stomach is in knots for no reason you can point to.
You're exhausted by noon and still can't sit still.
You cancel on people because the day already took everything you had.
You lie awake running through tomorrow before it has happened.

None of this means something is wrong with you or that you should have sorted it out by now. Anxiety that has been going this long usually has something feeding it and finding out what is a large part of what we do.

Slow Down And Get Calmer

Things can be different. Imagine:

Getting through a normal day without the low hum of dread underneath it.
Sleeping through the night instead of waking at two with your heart going.
Feeling a spiral start and having something that stops it.
Saying yes to plans without the dread beforehand and the replay afterwards.
Making a decision and letting it stand.

It's Possible To Turn The Volume Down On The Anxiety

The first thing most people notice once therapy starts to work is the volume

The worry is still there but it's like someone turned the volume down. It stops following you from the kitchen to the car to your desk.

Then the days start giving something back. There is energy left over by the evening. You answer the message when it arrives instead of letting it sit for three days. Dinner with people you love is something you enjoy rather than something you get through.

What changes is how much of your day the anxiety gets and how quickly it passes when it does show up.

How Anxiety Therapy Works

We meet for fifty minutes, in person in Huntington Beach or online anywhere in California. You don't need to arrive with the right words for what's wrong.

1

We start with when it shows up and what it's like when it does: the situations, the time of day, the thoughts that come with it.

2

You leave the first few weeks with something you can use when it spikes. Waiting months to feel any different is not the plan.

3

We get at what has been feeding the anxiety so it stops coming back in the same way. We go at your pace and you decide what we get into.

4

We keep track of what's easing and adjust as we go, so we're always working on whatever is weighing on you most right now.

5

As things settle we work on keeping them that way, so a stressful stretch doesn't put you back where you started.

Some of this you'll notice within a few weeks and some of it takes longer. What matters is that your days start to feel like yours instead of something to get through.
